What is a Road-e-o?

The School Bus Driver Safety Road-e-o is a friendly competition amongst school bus drivers that includes written tests along with a driving course. The driving course highlights several maneuverability skills that are designed to test drivers’ abilities. The Road-e-o is designed to promote safety, professionalism, and recognition through the cooperative effort of school districts, Ohio Association of Public School Employees, Ohio Association of Pupil Transportation, Ohio Department of Education, Ohio Education Association, and the Ohio School Bus Mechanics Association.

The top six drivers from the region will then qualify for the State School Bus Driver Safety Road-e-o. If you are interested in helping with this event, please see the Transportation Department or email April Johnson at ajohnson@medinaesc.org or Lisa West at lwest@medinaesc.org. It is not required to be a school bus driver or even a Transportation Department employee to help out!

Regional School Bus Driver Safety Road-E-O

The 2026 North Region School Bus Driver Safety Road-E-O will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

Location: Crestview Local Schools - 1575 State Route 96, Ashland, OH 44805

THEME: School Bus Safety

The top 6 drivers will advance to the state level of the competition which will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Additional awards will given out for: Rookie of the Year, the school that had the most 1st time participants, Volunteer of the Year, and the Spirit Award for the school that best participates in the theme.

    2025 North Region RoadEO Results

    47 out of the 50 registered drivers competed on October 4, 2025 at Crestview Local Schools in Richland County. They took a written test and drove through an obstacle course which included pick up and drop offs, railroad crossing, left hand turn, offset street, diminishing clearance, forward stop line, forward and reverse serpentine, and a find the defect pre-trip of the bus.

    These drivers will be heading to Olentangy's Berlin High School on Saturday, October 18th for the State ROAD-E-O Competition.
