Art and Law

We are happy to announce that the "Art and Law" component will be in effect again this year! So we are pleased to make this opportunity available to our artistically-talented students for the third consecutive year. Judge William Hutson, Medina County Court of Common Pleas, will personally select, frame, and display student artwork meeting specific criteria. For more information, contact your high school art instructor or Brenda Zacharias at bzacharias@medinaesc.org.

Visual Arts Festival 2026

We are thrilled to launch the inaugural Medina County "Young Artists’ Showcase" featuring students in Grades 4-9, in addition to those in Grades 10-12. This showcase will provide a much-needed exhibition opportunity for younger students, and the work of older students will provide inspiration for younger artists.

Each student may submit a maximum of two (2) pieces of artwork total across all six categories. There are no entry fees.

The Visual Art Festival provides the opportunity for visual arts students to:

  • Have their unique works of art displayed publicly,
  • Have their works adjudicated, and
  • View artwork by students from other school districts in Medina County.

Addison Dressel, a 2025 graduating senior from Medina High School, was awarded Best of Show for her “Two Sides of the Same Coin” drawing. As such, she received a $300 award from the ESC, sponsored by George and Mary Marg Marquis. Her high school art teacher was Lauren Smith. Addison will attend Bowling Green State University to major in art history.

The ESC of Medina County gifted a total of $1,400 to 23 students for their award-winning artwork in May 2025. The following sponsors' generous support made possible many of the student awards: Baskets Galore, LLC; Hollo's Papercraft, Inc.; George and Mary Marg Marquis, and Brenda Zacharias.

In 2025, we were once again pleased to make the opportunity available to our artistically-talented high school students to participate in the “Art and Law” show. Judge William Hutson personally selected 49 pieces of 2-D student artwork. These pieces were framed and will be on display in the Medina County Court of Common Pleas for two years.

Such partners as Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital and CBRE Group are vital to staging the show in such a nice public venue.

An outgrowth of the Visual Art Festival is a year-round rotating student artwork display on several floors of the Medina Medical Office Building. See "Arts in Public Places" webpage.
